About the position

The Director of Operations is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of the line and staff components of the organizational unit to achieve established objectives. This role encompasses a full range of operational activities at the division, including manufacturing, quality assurance, information systems, tooling, purchasing, facilities management, maintenance, and environmental affairs. The Director provides guidance and analysis to appraise the effectiveness of all operational activities, ensuring that the division meets its financial and non-financial objectives. In this position, the Director develops and implements operational strategies and goals that align with the division's objectives. This includes creating policies and procedures to support these strategies, as well as developing operating plans that encompass financial objectives, sales and production plans, inventory levels, process improvements, asset utilization, and capital and expense budgets. The Director is also responsible for defining and establishing an organizational structure that optimizes operating efficiency, performing performance appraisals on directly supervised subordinates, and developing subordinate managers to ensure effective management. The Director interprets and enforces company policies and procedures, as well as federal and state regulations affecting the Focused Factories. They recommend and implement changes to internal policies and procedures as necessary and assign responsibilities for conducting environmental health and safety self-inspections and safety huddles within their areas of responsibility. Additionally, the Director may perform other related duties as directed by the division's President, contributing to the overall success and operational excellence of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement operational strategies and goals to meet the division's financial and non-financial objectives.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to support the operational strategies.
  • Create operating plans that include financial objectives, sales and production plans, inventory levels, process improvement, asset utilization, and capital and expense budgets.
  • Define, develop, and establish an organizational structure to optimize operating efficiency.
  • Perform performance appraisals on directly supervised subordinates and develop subordinate managers for effective management.
  • Interpret and enforce company policies and procedures as well as federal and state regulations affecting the Focused Factories.
  • Recommend and implement changes to internal policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Assign responsibility for conducting EH&S self-inspection and safety huddles for their areas of responsibility.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the division's President.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Engineering.
  • 10-15 years of directly related work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Technical competence in relevant fields including technical, financial, market, and product-related knowledge.
  • Strong decision-making skills to manage resources and solve problems effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in using computer software such as Excel, Word, Access, and other pertinent software.
