About the position

The Director of Operations at Fortive Corporation will lead and manage the operations function at Hengstler Dynapar's facility in Elizabethtown, North Carolina. This role is pivotal in driving continuous improvement and ensuring the operational priorities of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Inventory are met. The Director will oversee day-to-day activities, manage personnel, and support strategic objectives while holding P&L responsibility up to the gross profit level.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Elizabethtown facility.
  • Mentor Production Managers, Team Leaders, and other professional staff.
  • Drive continuous improvement and lean principles through the Fortive Business System.
  • Provide input for the identification and selection of improvement projects.
  • Facilitate and train kaizen or improvement project teams.
  • Communicate objectives related to safety, quality, delivery, and cost to motivate the team.
  • Interface with other business leaders to achieve overall goals using shared resources.
  • Organizational design and talent management for Elizabethtown operations organization.
  • Collaborate with Design and Implementation teams on manufacturability and reliability reviews.
  • Manage and improve external and internal quality performance.
  • Support the ISO9001-based quality system.
  • Improve on-time delivery, costs, and labor efficiency.
  • Manage labor availability and enhance cross-training for flexibility.
  • Monitor and improve inventory levels and logistics.
  • Own Fortive Materials Planning processes (Kanban, etc.).
  • Assist in data collection and analysis for new business opportunities.
  • P&L ownership for Hengstler NA down to gross profit level, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Assist in achieving Policy Deployment and Strategic Plan objectives.
  • Perform benchmarking studies as required.
  • Define manufacturing requirements for suppliers.
  • Support key account and special customer requests.
  • Oversee the Elizabethtown site, including facilities and equipment maintenance, health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Drive cultural change towards a strong health and safety culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field; Master's preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of Operations Management experience in a complex manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated lean manufacturing experience with proven results.
  • Working knowledge of various manufacturing processes, preferably assembly, injection molding, SMT production, CNC, plating, or machining.
  • Knowledge of quality principles and tools such as problem analysis and statistical tools.
  • Ability to interface effectively with various technical and management levels.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills and knowledge of databases and statistical tools.
  • Mechanically inclined or possess mechanical skill sets.
  • Ability to travel 25%.
