About the position

The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing various staff functions that contribute to the fiscal success of the organization, including construction, retail operations, fundraising, family services, volunteer services, and public relations. This role involves leadership and administration, ensuring that the organization achieves its mission while adhering to policies and budgetary guidelines set by the board of directors. The Director also participates in grant writing and real estate development as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support, leadership, and administration to construction and family services departments.
  • Oversee Habitat construction, including planning, building, and completion of homes and repairs.
  • Serve as a resource to the Executive Director and Finance Director on policy development, planning, budgeting, and finances.
  • Provide staff support to the Board Finance Committee.
  • Ensure effective communication and education for homeowners throughout the selection and building processes.
  • Direct the construction, volunteer and family services, retail, and development directors to implement initiatives under the strategic plan and budget.
  • Ensure effective performance of all direct reports.
  • Assist in site selection, construction, repair, family and volunteer services, development, and communications as needed.
  • Write and review grant applications and ensure compliance.
  • Participate in fundraising events as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, real estate, construction, accounting, human services, or related area.
  • Two or more years of operational management experience, preferably in the Habitat and/or non-profit sector.
  • Superior analytical skills and ability to think strategically.
  • Proven track record in sound operational management and motivating supervision of others.
  • Ability to attract, retain, lead, and motivate quality staff and volunteer leadership.
  • Commitment to the Habitat mission, values, and ethics.
