About the position

The Operations Director is responsible for overseeing the daily collection operations at a single site with multiple lines of business. This role focuses on managing performance, productivity metrics, cost management processes, and P&L responsibility, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations, and leading a team of Route Managers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the district's daily operations, providing direct support to drivers to ensure safety, service efficiency, and cost savings.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations, including Company policies, OSHA, and other relevant laws.
  • Conduct thorough root cause investigations for all incidents and injuries, followed by coaching and retraining as necessary.
  • Oversee personnel management, including hiring, coaching, training, performance evaluation, compensation decisions, promotions, and terminations.
  • Collaborate with senior management to formulate short- and long-term goals and develop actionable plans for operations.
  • Participate in P&L reviews, ensuring budget targets are met.
  • Implement programs to optimize equipment utilization, maintenance, and labor/material costs.
  • Serve as a liaison with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve operational efficiency, and negotiate contracts.
  • Act as a key figure in community outreach efforts to build the company's reputation and secure business growth at the site.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or high school diploma/GED with at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years in a supervisory role with P&L responsibility.
  • Proven track record in operations, customer service, community relations, health and safety, or financial and HR functions.
  • Experience in safety program implementation (OSHA), budget management, equipment specification, and resolving labor relations issues.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing budgets ranging from $150 million to $250 million.
  • Strong ability to engage in community outreach to promote the business.
