About the position

The Director of Partnership Accounting at MassMutual will lead a team responsible for managing investment accounting processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting for various partnership investment products. This role involves collaboration with internal teams and external partners, focusing on continuous improvement and efficiency in accounting practices. The position is integral to the Controllers Organization of Corporate Finance, aiming to enhance financial stewardship and operational excellence within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team responsible for the accurate and timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close cycles for complex investment accounting.
  • Develop, document, and ensure adherence to an internal control framework for accurate financial reporting.
  • Implement new control processes and assess improvements in partnership accounting.
  • Analyze trends and results, collaborating with peers to draft commentary on financial performance.
  • Review and ensure the accuracy and timely completion of Partnership footnotes and NAIC schedules.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and assist with special projects as requested.
  • Execute process redesigns in response to increased investment strategies and develop analytics for quarterly partnership results.
  • Serve as the point of contact for external auditors on partnership-related matters.
  • Collaborate effectively with accounting policy, tax, financial reporting, and business unit controllers.
  • Research and implement new statutory and GAAP investment accounting requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in Alternative Investment Accounting, specifically in private equity, venture capital, or hedge fund accounting.
  • 1+ years of experience leading teams in a deliverable-oriented environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in insurance company Investment GAAP and Statutory accounting.
  • 1+ years of experience developing and managing onshore and offshore teams.
  • CPA or progress towards CPA preferred.
  • Experience in identifying internal control issues and remediation efforts.
  • Preferred experience working in a Lean Six Sigma environment with strong root cause problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to partner with and influence business leaders in investment process redesign and improvements.
  • Experience using investment data and ERP tools (SAP, Hyperion, NetSuite, etc.).
  • Intellectual curiosity for continuous learning.
