About the position

The Director of Payroll and Financial/HRIS Operations at Ascend Charter Schools is responsible for managing the payroll team and ensuring the accurate processing of semi-monthly payrolls. This role involves overseeing financial and HRIS operations, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and leading process improvements within the finance-HR systems. The Director collaborates with various departments to enhance operational processes and supports the administration of the retirement plan.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns, directs, and supervises activities of Payroll Manager and Senior HRIS Analyst.
  • Oversees payroll team to ensure seamless administration, including compliance and tax-related filings and reporting.
  • Leads process improvements within finance-HR systems, leveraging current HRIS and business analysis technology capabilities.
  • Facilitates collaborations between Finance, HR, and Talent to develop business and operations processes, such as the Staffing/Vacancy model.
  • Ensures adherence to established laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards in payroll and HRIS procedures and systems.
  • Reviews and approves payroll and HRIS system enhancement agenda.
  • Advises school system personnel on payroll matters and resolves discrepancies in payroll administration.
  • Oversees the design, management, and administration of Ascend's retirement plan and manages partnerships with various stakeholders.
  • Ensures timely and accurate plan contributions in compliance with federal regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in payroll, HRIS systems, or HR role
  • Non-profit experience is a plus
  • Experience with HRIS or data management systems
  • Highly skilled in the use of Excel

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $95,000 - $115,000 based on experience and qualifications
