About the position

The Director of Payroll and Financial/HRIS Operations at Ascend Public Charter Schools is responsible for managing the payroll team and overseeing the integration of financial and human resources information systems. This role ensures compliance with payroll regulations, leads process improvements, and collaborates with various departments to enhance operational efficiency. The position reports directly to the CFO and plays a crucial role in supporting the organization's mission of providing exceptional education to students.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns, directs, and supervises activities of Payroll Manager and Senior HRIS Analyst.
  • Oversees payroll team to ensure seamless administration, including compliance and tax-related filings and reporting.
  • Leads process improvements within finance-HR systems, leveraging current HRIS and other business analysis technology capabilities.
  • Facilitates collaborations between Finance, HR, and Talent to develop business and operations processes, such as the Staffing/Vacancy model.
  • Identifies ways to maximize the HRIS to improve real-time position control management and reporting, as well as creating and maintaining ad hoc data analysis.
  • Ensures all payroll and HRIS procedures and systems adhere to established laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Assists and advises team members in resolving non-routine payroll issues as they arise.
  • Reviews and approves payroll and HRIS system enhancement agenda.
  • Advises school system personnel on payroll matters and resolves discrepancies in payroll administration.
  • Oversees the design, management, and administration of Ascend's retirement plan and manages partnerships with various stakeholders.
  • Ensures timely and accurate plan contributions in compliance with the plan's rules and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in payroll, HRIS systems, or HR role
  • Highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with HRIS or data management systems
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills
