About the position

The Director of Plant Operations is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and controlling the activities of various operational programs within the hospital, including Plant Services, Bio-Med, Environmental Services (EVS), and Security. This role ensures that the hospital's physical structures and systems are maintained in a safe and operational condition while complying with regulatory requirements. The Director oversees staff activities, emergency procedures, and compliance with health and safety regulations, while also managing contracts and staffing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and control activities of Plant Services, Bio-Med, EVS, and Security programs.
  • Maintain the physical structures, HVAC, mechanical, electrical systems, utilities, and grounds of the hospital.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and documentation for Life Safety, Utilities, Hazardous Materials, and Security.
  • Manage staff activities and oversee task completion.
  • Execute emergency procedures and train staff accordingly.
  • Consult with sites to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Perform routine EOC rounding and oversee EOC management plans.
  • Ensure the Facilities Team utilizes the SharePoint site for regulation and compliance updates.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee contracts, contract labor, and staff orientation and evaluation processes.
  • Manage daily operations, including maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 5 years previous management experience
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Knowledge of fire life safety systems, hazardous materials, and utility management
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory CMS and TJC requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to make accurate observations in various situations
  • Ability to use sound reasoning and judgment to resolve issues
  • Demonstrated customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)
