About the position

The Director of Plant Operations is responsible for overseeing the activities of Plant Services, Bio-Med, Environmental Services (EVS), and Security programs within the hospital. This role ensures that the physical structures and systems of the hospital, including HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems, are maintained in a safe and operational condition. The Director also coordinates regulatory compliance and documentation related to Life Safety, Utilities, Hazardous Materials, and Security, while managing staff activities and emergency procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Operationalizes proposed/upcoming changes to regulations affecting facility operations and consults with each site to ensure compliance.
  • Performs Routine EOC Rounding and provides oversight for the seven EOC management plans, including Engineering and EVS policies.
  • Ensures the hospital maintains compliance with federal, state, city, and local regulatory agencies and organizations.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels and oversees contracts, contract labor, orientation, and evaluation.
  • Responsible for scheduling/staffing, coaching, training, hiring, firing, counseling, performance evaluations, and payroll process.
  • Oversees and coordinates daily operations of the department, including corrective and preventive maintenance for all equipment.
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking in planning, implementing, and evaluating systems/programs/initiatives for the department.
  • Provides input for and evaluates options and available technology for major plant and equipment systems replacements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 5 years previous management experience
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Knowledge of fire life safety systems, hazardous materials, and utility management
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory CMS and TJC requirements
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to make accurate observations in various situations, including emergencies and hazardous conditions
  • Ability to use sound reasoning and judgment to resolve issues
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Demonstrated customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)
