About the position

As the first Director of Policy and Regulatory Affairs at Gridware, you will be pivotal in accelerating the company's market expansion within the grid resilience and wildfire ecosystem. This role involves building relationships with state public utility regulators, policymakers, utilities, and trade groups to educate them on the threats posed by extreme weather and wildfires to the electrical grid. Your efforts will focus on advocating for Gridware's solutions that help mitigate risks and protect lives, ensuring successful engagement with regulators and utility partners at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and drive a national regulatory strategy leveraging industry expertise.
  • Evangelize the company while building authentic and durable relationships to achieve growth goals.
  • Leverage state and federal policy and regulatory expertise to inform the company's go-to-market strategy and support sales efforts.
  • Translate sophisticated technological solutions into accessible applications understood by regulators and stakeholders.
  • Draft and file regulatory comments, testify before regulatory bodies, and prepare the CEO for public comments.
  • Build Gridware's brand as an industry expert by speaking at conferences and participating in panels.
  • Create trust with utility clients as a regulatory partner and problem solver.
  • Develop relationships with thought leaders and industry experts across various sectors.
  • Proactively engage and partner with internal stakeholders to drive business objectives.
  • Work with partners to shape best practices, policy, and regulation for a more resilient electric grid.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant experience (mix of startup, industry, and government preferred).
  • Deep policy and market expertise at the intersection of technology, utilities, and the grid, focusing on state policy and public utility regulation.
  • Record of successfully advocating with external stakeholders and building non-transactional relationships.
  • Proven ability to drive results on high-profile projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex topics into clear messages.
  • Adept at defending positions, persuading team members, and presenting externally.
  • Strong business judgment and ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Entrepreneurial drive and comfort with ambiguous problems and fast-paced environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, economics, energy, sustainability, or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • JD, MPP, or related Master's degree.
  • Direct experience working at a Public Utility Commission.
  • Direct experience working at a Utility.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire and build a strong team.

  • Starting pay between $170,000 and $190,000 + equity, based on skills and experience.
