About the position

JANUS et Cie is currently seeking a Director of Product Management to oversee all aspects of product categories, including product launches, cost negotiations, purchasing, production, scheduling, and resolving technical issues. This role is critical in managing relationships with various vendors globally and ensuring that the product offerings align with the company's brand identity and market demands. The position is based in Santa Fe Springs, CA, and operates on a Monday to Friday schedule with flexible hours to accommodate interactions with international vendors across different time zones. In this role, the Director will work closely with the Product Development and Sales teams to create effective product and pricing strategies. They will lead the New Product Introduction process, which includes projection development, order placement for showroom products and events, sales tools, inventory management, and product training. A comprehensive understanding of vendor capabilities is essential, as the Director will review cost calculations and develop list prices for new product launches in line with financial requirements. The Director will also collaborate with a Business Analyst to optimize inventory levels for stocked products, parts, and sales tools. Leading and developing a team of product managers, product coordinators, and business analysts is a key responsibility, as is initiating process changes and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to address business challenges. The Director will be a problem solver, developing collective solutions for changing business needs through data-driven decisions. Additionally, the Director will manage product managers on major warranty or quality claims, address product issues, and manage cost variances throughout the year. They will work on custom and unique projects, set long-term vision and strategy for the company's products, and analyze sales history to identify trends and benchmarks. Continuous gathering and analysis of data and business intelligence from both external and internal sources will be necessary to create effective product roadmaps. The Director will also manage products throughout their lifecycle, perform annual SKU rationalization reviews, and provide recommendations. Collaboration with the website team to maintain product data and coordination with stakeholders across the organization to prioritize needs will be essential. This position directly manages Product Managers, a Marine Project Manager, a Product Coordinator, and a Product Management Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of product categories including product launches, cost negotiations, purchasing, production, and scheduling.
  • Work with the Product Development & Sales teams to create product and pricing strategy aligned with brand identity.
  • Lead New Product Introduction process including projection development, order placement for showroom products & events, sales tools, inventory management, and product training.
  • Collaborate with product design, engineering, and operations to drive product development within established milestone metrics.
  • Review cost calculations and develop list prices for new product launches in line with financial requirements.
  • Develop optimal inventory levels on stocked products, parts, and sales tools in collaboration with Business Analyst.
  • Lead and develop a team of product managers, product coordinators, and business analysts to solve business challenges.
  • Initiate process changes and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Develop collective solutions for changing business needs using data-driven decisions.

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of product management experience, preferably within the furniture industry.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings from factories.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Flexible hours required due to interactions with vendors in various time zones.
