About the position

The Director of Project Management at Westwood Contractors Inc. is responsible for overseeing the project management staff and ensuring the timely and profitable completion of construction projects. This role involves direct supervision of project managers, assistant project managers, and project coordinators, with a focus on maintaining quality standards and budget adherence. The Director will also play a key role in leadership, strategic planning, and process improvement within the project management department.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the work product of the project management department employees, providing leadership to achieve timely completion, specified quality, and budgeted project profits.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals and compensation reviews for all direct reports.
  • Conduct weekly project review meetings to track buyout, construction progress, and financial performance.
  • Review the quality, content, and timeliness of project communications among the project team, clients, and consultants.
  • Assess the effectiveness of project teams in managing suppliers, subcontractors, and consultants.
  • Provide support to direct reports on project challenges and critical performance issues.
  • Work closely with the General Superintendent to ensure effective collaboration between project management and field teams.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of project manager/field superintendent team performance.
  • Assign project teams to new projects based on skills and project requirements.
  • Recruit, train, and assess the performance of project management team members.
  • Assess and refine existing department processes to ensure best practices in operational productivity and service quality.
  • Participate in the annual budgeting process to align project management goals with financial goals.
  • Participate in the assessment and evolution of the company's technology platform to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Sign off on all owner and subcontractor change orders to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Construction Technology or Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial construction and management of construction projects.
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity with a variety of project types valued between $1,000,000 to $20,000,000.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficient in Procore, Microsoft Office (Excel and MS Project), and Sage 300.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
