About the position

The Director of Research Compliance at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the university's research compliance programs. This role involves managing conflict of interest processes, ensuring compliance with federal agency requirements, supervising the Human Subjects Research Office, and advising on various compliance issues related to sponsored research. The Director will also negotiate contracts and agreements, participate in compliance committees, and promote a culture of compliance and ethics within the university's research activities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Conflict of Interest process for researchers, including review of all project COIs and drafting management plans.
  • Work with university leadership to enhance and coordinate research compliance resources and practices.
  • Supervise the Human Subjects Research Office staff and assist with IRB appointments and reliance agreements.
  • Participate in university-level compliance committees as a representative of the VP for Research.
  • Conduct export control compliance and project reviews, including OFAC and banned party screening.
  • Act as the VPR Representative on information security issues affecting research.
  • Coordinate sponsored project reviews with the Institute Biosafety Committee, IACUC, and Radiation Safety Committee.
  • Advise on pre-and post-award non-financial compliance issues, including research misconduct.
  • Negotiate non-disclosure agreements and complex sponsored research contracts.
  • Handle negotiation and processing of DOD research contracts and international research collaborations.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • 10 years of progressively advanced experience in university or corporate regulatory compliance, particularly in externally sponsored academic research.
  • Experience in post-award sponsored project contracting and management.
  • Experience in post-award university project research compliance issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • 10-12 years of sponsored research compliance experience in a university setting.
  • Specific experience with conflict of interest management and export control regulations.
  • Experience coordinating research misconduct inquiries and investigations.
  • Experience with inter-institutional agreements and human subjects review on multi-institution projects.
