About the position

The Director of Risk Management at Colby College is responsible for leading the college's enterprise risk management efforts, advising on risk management issues, overseeing the insurance program, and managing the ERM process. This role involves engaging with the Board of Trustees on risk assessment protocols, ensuring the protection of the college's assets, and maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. The director will also manage a diverse workforce and collaborate with various departments to minimize risk and enhance compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Colby College's enterprise risk management efforts and advise campus constituents on risk-management issues.
  • Oversee the college's insurance program and manage the enterprise risk management (ERM) process.
  • Engage with the Enterprise Risk / Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees on risk assessment protocols.
  • Identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor operational and strategic risks associated with college activities.
  • Administer, record-keep, and oversee insurance programs and policies across various loss types.
  • Maintain relationships with third-party service providers and prepare recommendations regarding insurance policies and services.
  • Collaborate with the General Counsel to support compliance functions across the college.
  • Manage the Enterprise Risk Management budget for insurance in excess of $1M.
  • Review and sign contracts below $250,000 in value and ensure compliance with risk management policies.
  • Develop Enterprise Risk Management tools, practices, and policies to analyze and report enterprise risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor certification.
  • Professional certification in the field of Risk Management.
  • 5-8 years of professional experience in risk management, safety, or insurance-related positions.
  • 8 or more years of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with pertinent Federal, State, and Local Regulations.
  • Excellent relationship building skills with different departments and employees.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in forecasting and analyzing risk metrics.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
