The Director of Risk Management & Title IX Coordinator at Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the university's business compliance, crisis management, and business continuity programs. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of the risks that could potentially affect the university's reputation, safety, security, and financial success. The individual in this role will also serve as the Title IX Coordinator, ensuring compliance with federal and state legislation regarding sex discrimination and sexual misconduct. In the realm of risk management, the Director will develop and implement a university-wide compliance program, staying informed about compliance-related issues that impact higher education institutions. This includes building relationships with professional organizations and peers to enhance the effectiveness of the compliance program. The Director will maintain a compliance calendar, propose corrective actions for non-compliance, and oversee the university's music licensing portfolio. Additionally, the role involves drafting and reviewing institutional policies, chairing the Compliance Council, and managing the departmental budget. As the Title IX Coordinator, the Director will coordinate efforts to comply with Title IX regulations, providing leadership and training to staff and students. This includes developing educational materials, overseeing investigations of sex discrimination complaints, and maintaining records related to Title IX compliance. The Director will also chair a Title IX Task Force and ensure that the university's Title IX portal is up to date. The position requires a strong commitment to the university's Christian values and adherence to the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement. The Director will play a crucial role in fostering a safe and compliant environment for all members of the university community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enact a broad University-wide compliance program.
  • Identify resources to help staff be aware of compliance objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with professional organizations and peers.
  • Maintain and coordinate the University's compliance calendar.
  • Propose corrective action steps in the event of non-compliance.
  • Maintain the University's music licensing portfolio.
  • Disseminate information pertaining to proposed regulation and policy changes.
  • Draft, review, and approve institutional policies.
  • Chair the University's Compliance Council.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of emergency operations and crisis communication plans.
  • Implement the University's Conflict of Interest policy.
  • Coordinate with legal counsel on a project basis.
  • Manage the departmental budget.
  • Serve on the Campus Emergency Task Force as needed.
  • Coordinate Title IX efforts and ensure compliance with federal and state legislation.
  • Provide ongoing leadership and training on Title IX for all students and employees.
  • Develop and disseminate educational materials regarding Title IX rights and responsibilities.
  • Oversee the intake, investigation, and resolution of sex discrimination complaints.
  • Provide guidance to alleged victims of sexual violence and sex discrimination.
  • Organize and maintain grievance files and reports regarding Title IX compliance.
  • Maintain and develop the University Title IX portal/website.
  • Chair a Title IX Task Force and participate in related groups as needed.
  • Review and analyze regulations to determine institutional obligations.
  • Contribute to the design of risk and compliance education for University staff.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of departmental intranet content.
  • Cross-train in matters related to contracts, insurance, and incident reporting.
  • Lead the Risk Management department, including an Assistant Director and student interns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in Business or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Risk management and/or insurance-related certification preferred.
  • Specialized training and/or experience in Title IX and sexual misconduct investigations.
  • Five or more years of experience in a regulatory compliance and/or risk management-related setting.
  • Two or more years of experience in higher education.
  • Two or more years of experience writing/reviewing legal contracts/agreements preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local laws related to higher education.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and communicate complex regulatory or legal documents.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent independent judgment.
  • Customer-oriented communication skills.
