About the position

The Director of Sales and Marketing at The Ritz-Carlton New York NoMad is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving the sales and marketing strategies of the property. This position is designed for properties with significant booking capabilities, specifically those with over 300 peak rooms and substantial local catering revenue. The Director will manage both reactive and proactive sales efforts, providing day-to-day leadership to the sales team to achieve property sales objectives. The role emphasizes the importance of building long-term, value-based customer relationships to meet the hotel's sales goals and revenue targets. In this capacity, the Director will implement the brand's service strategy and applicable initiatives throughout the sales process. They will evaluate the property's participation in various sales channels, including Area Sales and Group Sales, and develop strong working relationships to effectively market the property. The Director will also oversee the marketing budget, enabling the development of property-specific campaigns and promotions that drive revenue and align with property objectives. Collaboration with regional marketing communications will be essential for executing regional and national promotions. The Director of Sales and Marketing will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that meet or exceed the needs of the brand's target customer profile while ensuring a return on investment for both the owner and Marriott International. This role requires a strategic mindset, strong leadership skills, and the ability to adapt to market trends to maintain a competitive edge in the hospitality industry.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the development of a strategic account plan for demand generators in the market.
  • Oversee the property's reactive and proactive sales efforts.
  • Determine and develop marketing communication activities in conjunction with Regional Marketing Communications.
  • Provide customer intelligence to evaluate market and economic trends affecting sales strategy.
  • Review the Strategic Alignment Review (STAR) report and competitive shopping reports to maintain market awareness.
  • Research competitor sales strategies to identify growth opportunities for occupancy and RevPAR.
  • Attend sales strategy meetings to provide input on overall sales strategy.
  • Suggest innovative marketing ideas and develop deployment strategies to grow market share.
  • Evaluate and support participation with Area Sales and Group Sales within the Sales Office.
  • Serve as the sales contact for the General Manager and property leadership team.
  • Act as the customer advocate and sales authority on processes and contracts.
  • Coordinate with various departments to ensure effective sales processes and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor guest issue resolutions arising from the sales process.
  • Implement the brand's service strategy and initiatives in the sales process.
  • Develop strong partnerships with local organizations to increase brand awareness.
  • Execute exemplary customer service to drive satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Lead the sales department and develop sales goals and strategies aligned with brand business strategy.
  • Coach revenue-generating department leaders on effective revenue strategies and goal setting.
  • Forecast talent needs and manage talent acquisition strategy with HR.
  • Identify, train, and mentor group sales associates.

Requirements

  • 2-year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related major with 4 years of experience in sales and marketing; OR a 4-year bachelor's degree in the same fields with 2 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated skills in supervising a team.
  • Lodging sales experience is preferred.
  • Hotel industry work experience with a pattern of exceptional performance.
