About the position

The Director of Sales, III (GSM) at Nexstar Media Group is a pivotal role responsible for setting and executing both local and digital strategies aimed at achieving the company's business goals. This position focuses on growing and engaging the digital audience across all platforms, ensuring that Nexstar remains competitive in the local news landscape. The Director will leverage their knowledge and experience in writing for both digital and broadcast platforms to enhance content quality and audience engagement. In this role, the Director will manage social media accounts and work closely with the News Director to create and manage internal processes that keep all digital platforms up-to-date and competitive. They will partner with local sales management to achieve revenue targets by capitalizing on alternate revenue streams, ensuring that the overall management and functionality of the website and other assigned digital platforms, such as mobile and social media, are optimized for performance. Collaboration is key in this position, as the Director will work with the corporate digital team on the implementation, support, and training for current and new products and platforms. They will also be responsible for optimizing website pages for search engine optimization (SEO) and tracking monthly analytics across various metrics, including web, advertiser, video, mobile, and social performance. The Director will conceptualize and create new content areas on the website while managing the contributions of others involved in similar assignments. Additionally, the Director will troubleshoot any issues that arise with the website and provide digital training and development for station colleagues, ensuring that the team is well-equipped to meet the demands of a fast-paced digital environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set and execute local and digital strategy to achieve business goals.

  • Oversee the management and functionality of the website and other digital platforms.
  • Collaborate with the corporate digital team for product implementation and training.
  • Optimize website pages for search engine optimization (SEO).
  • Track monthly analytics for web, advertiser, video, mobile, and social metrics.
  • Work collaboratively with News, Advertising, Marketing, and Sales departments.
  • Conceptualize and create new content areas on the website.
  • Troubleshoot website issues and provide solutions.
  • Provide digital training and development for station colleagues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or 3-5 years of comprehensive experience in digital media, journalism, broadcast, or media sales.
  • 2 - 5 years of supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of online content management systems (CMSs) and HTML.
  • Knowledge of web design/development applications such as JavaScript, Adobe Photoshop, and FTP is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work collaboratively with editorial, sales, and marketing leaders.
  • Strong sense of initiative and focus on continuous learning.
  • Ability to build strong relationships within the local station, corporate team, and third-party partners.
  • Demonstrate entrepreneurial abilities with start-up business/project skills strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of social media and SEO concepts, with a rich understanding of digital platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated prior success in growing social media audiences and communities, including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
