About the position

The Catbird is seeking an experienced Director of Sales & Marketing to join the opening leadership team. This role is pivotal in meeting and exceeding revenue goals by developing new accounts and growing current hotel accounts through a profitable and win-win selling approach. The Director will be responsible for leading direct reports to achieve the property’s sales goals, ensuring accountability for their essential duties and responsibilities. The position requires a proactive approach to direct sales, targeting appointment-oriented sales calls to ensure a successful direct sales program aligned with departmental budgets and marketing plans. The ideal candidate will possess independent hotel and/or extended stay experience, which is preferred for this role. In this position, the Director will maximize current hotel key accounts by identifying and capturing those that offer revenue growth. They will oversee the hotel's long-term leasing strategy, aiming to increase overall profitability while maintaining an appropriate market mix. New account development is crucial, and the Director will capture competitor accounts through networking, research, and surveys to solicit new business opportunities. The role also involves planning and implementing ongoing targeted account development strategies to create new revenue streams and acquire valuable hotel contacts and contracts. The Director will promote the brand story and hotel offerings in the market, adjusting the sales plan according to changes in business and marketing trends. They will utilize yield management techniques to negotiate room rates and function space commitments, enhancing the hotel's financial performance. Strong customer relations are essential, and the Director will maintain well-documented, organized, and up-to-date file management systems to service clients effectively. The role requires a focus on revenue-producing activities, with a minimum of 90% of work time dedicated to direct sales efforts. Professionalism and integrity are paramount, as the Director represents the hotel and Sage Hospitality Group with a service-focused approach.

Responsibilities

  • Achieves a minimum of 90% of productivity goals and 100% of activity goals, as established by management.
  • Leads direct reports in a manner that achieves the properties sales goals and holds them accountable to their essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Targets appointment-oriented sales calls to ensure a successful direct sales program, in accordance with goals established by department budget and marketing plan.
  • Maximizes current hotel key accounts by identifying and capturing those that offer revenue growth.
  • Oversees hotel's long-term leasing strategy with the goal of increasing overall profitability of the property and maintaining appropriate market mix.
  • Captures competitor's accounts through networking, research and reader board surveys in order to target and solicit those most probable to generate new business.
  • Plans and implements an on-going Targeted Account Development "hit list" in order to create new revenue and acquire valuable hotel contacts, and contracts.
  • Plans and implements ecommerce and internet marketing strategies.
  • Promotes the story of the brand and the hotel in the market, with the goal of increasing overall profitability of the property.
  • Adjusts the sales plan according to changes in business and marketing trends, aggressively pursuing the market mix and type of group, transient, and long-term leasing business that will best achieve the success of the hotel.
  • Maintains a current working knowledge of the competition and demonstrates a working knowledge of all hotel operations.
  • Targets and prospects for new business through telemarketing, individual creativity and innovation.
  • Utilizes yield management techniques by profitably negotiating room rates and function space commitments in order to enhance the hotel's financial performance.
  • Maintains well-documented, accurate, organized and up-to-date file management system in order to service client and employer in the most expedient manner.
  • Develops strong customer relations through frequent communication and professional interaction.
  • Conducts research, surveys, personal investigation and studies market place and territory to effectively capitalize on the hotel's strengths and competitor's weaknesses.
  • Focuses on revenue-producing activity and maximizes selling time by dedicating a minimum 90% work time on direct sales efforts.
  • Controls expenses including travel on the property's behalf to minimize hotel costs.
  • Represents themselves, the hotel and Sage Hospitality Resources, Inc. with the highest level of integrity and professionalism.

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of hotel sales management experience.
  • 3-5 years sales management experience.
  • Requires knowledge of general sales techniques, yield management, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to hear, speak, read and write English fluently.
  • Requires effective business writing skills.
  • Vision to read fine print and computer screens, to see colors, to observe rooms in poorly lit conditions.
  • Organized and able to work on more than one task at a time.
  • Develop strong internal and customer relations.
  • Set and manage priorities and plan activities in advance.
  • Adhere to deadlines.
  • Solve problems and make sound business decisions.
