About the position

The Director of Sales + Marketing is responsible for overseeing the total revenue generation for the hotel, which includes managing group and transient room sales, group food and beverage services, meeting room rentals, and local catering. This role requires the implementation of effective strategies that encompass market mix, direct sales, and marketing initiatives aimed at maximizing profitability while ensuring outstanding quality service for customers. The Director will be accountable for market and revenue performance, budget management, forecasting, and achieving target goals. This position works closely with the Director of Revenue and the General Manager/Vice President to develop yield strategies and pricing status, and it plays a vital role in the overall management of the hotel as a member of the Executive Committee. The ideal candidate will be a proven team leader with a high level of energy and motivation, demonstrating a strong track record of embodying the company's values. They will be results-oriented, emphasizing both individual and team accountability, and will have experience leading a diverse staff, particularly in managing an organized labor workforce. The position requires a minimum of five years of sales and marketing leadership experience in a similarly sized operation. In this role, the Director will create an issue-free work environment by motivating, supporting, empowering, and developing all personnel. They will strive to build positive working relationships through teamwork and clear communication, ensuring that all decisions align with the Affinia policy of 100% guest satisfaction. The Director will also have a strategic perspective, continuously developing the brand and integrating it into every aspect of the guest experience. They will actively participate in comprehensive sales and marketing efforts, serve as the industry spokesperson for Affinia, and work to achieve and exceed budgeted room nights and revenue goals annually. Additionally, the Director will manage all group, transient, and catering/banquet sales activities to maximize hotel revenue, analyze critical business accounts, assist Sales and Catering Managers, and participate in sales presentations and customer meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for total revenue generation including group and transient rooms, group food and beverage, meeting room rental, and local catering.
  • Maximize profitability for the hotel while ensuring outstanding quality service for customers.
  • Accountable for market and revenue performance, budget management, forecasting, and target goals.
  • Work directly with the Director of Revenue and GM/VP on yield strategies and pricing status.
  • Participate in total hotel management as a member of the hotel Executive Committee.
  • Provide a supportive work environment through motivation, support, empowerment, and development for all personnel.
  • Build positive working relationships through teamwork and clear communication.
  • Ensure all decisions align with the Affinia policy of 100% guest satisfaction.
  • Participate in comprehensive sales and marketing efforts.
  • Act as the industry spokesperson and representative for Affinia.
  • Achieve and exceed budgeted room nights and revenue goals annually.
  • Direct and manage all group, transient, and catering/banquet sales activities to maximize revenue for the hotel.
  • Analyze and estimate the total value of critical business accounts and negotiate for optimum revenue.
  • Assist Sales and Catering Managers in obtaining necessary customer information and closing business.
  • Participate in sales presentations, property tours, and customer meetings.
  • Write and execute annual marketing plans to maintain and uncover new business.
  • Develop rates, group ceilings, and deployment strategies based on competitive data and demand analysis.
  • Work with Revenue Manager and GM to ensure accurate revenue forecasting.
  • Recruit, direct, manage, train, and counsel sales staff.
  • Conduct/attend daily business review meetings, weekly strategic sales meetings, and other required meetings.
  • Manage local advertising, public relations, and promotional activities.
  • Complete monthly sales activity reports and other required reports.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of sales and marketing leadership in a similar sized operation.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Possess leadership skills and computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Delphi.
  • Knowledge of computer accounting programs and budgetary analysis capabilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of sales skills and revenue management.
  • Ability to analyze data and establish appropriate action plans.
