About the position

Four Seasons Hotel New York is seeking an experienced Director of Sales who is passionate about excellence and dedicated to providing exceptional service standards. This role is pivotal in leading the sales team to position the property as the premier deluxe hotel/resort in the location. The Director of Sales will ensure that sales and catering activities are strategically focused to maximize revenue per room occupied. The ideal candidate will be proactive, with a proven track record in sales, and will represent Four Seasons on sales calls, as well as participate in travel fairs and exhibitions. Strong management skills are essential for this role, as the Director will be responsible for recruiting, selecting, and training sales and events department personnel, ensuring they are familiar with the hotel’s functions and Four Seasons standards. In this position, the Director of Sales will conduct performance evaluations and follow up with sales and events personnel to identify development and coaching opportunities. They will also perform all supervisory functions necessary to manage personnel effectively, including labor and payroll management, compliance training, safety instruction, and guidance on expense and travel management. The Director will direct the hotel’s sales activities to achieve budgeted and assigned goals, monitor current and future business trends to ensure profitable sales, and assist in developing the annual marketing plan. They will ensure that project and business plans are executed in line with the hotel marketing plan, focusing on increasing sales and profitability. Additionally, the Director will supervise the installation of sales and marketing procedures, ensuring compliance with all company Minimum Operating Standards. They will manage all sellers to achieve targets across all segments, including Rooms, Food & Beverage, and Banquet Spend, while coaching sellers in negotiation and confirmation of sales. The Director will also assist the Director of Marketing in establishing annual sales goals and ensure that these goals and incentive programs are fully understood and implemented for maximum achievement. Effective communication with internal stakeholders regarding Conference Services and Catering planning details is crucial for coordinating seamless delivery of meeting and event experiences. The Director will assist in budget preparation and ensure departmental operations remain within cost constraints, and will assume responsibility for the Marketing Department in the absence of the Director of Marketing.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Three to five years of previous employment in a Group Sales related position.
  • Luxury hotel sales experience preferred.
  • Sales or Hospitality Education is preferable, but not essential with relevant work experience.
  • Regular travel is required for this position.
  • Prior New York experience is preferred.
