About the position

The Director of Site Development at Meta is responsible for managing the global data center real estate and development portfolio, aligning with the company's strategic objectives, particularly in advancing AI initiatives. This role encompasses overseeing site location strategies, land development, negotiations, leasing strategies, and the management of existing data centers, ensuring environmental impacts are mitigated and necessary permits are obtained for operations and expansions.

Responsibilities

• Grow and lead a global team of site selection, real estate, and environmental professionals dedicated to locating, developing, and managing Meta's global data center fleet.
• Collaborate with key leaders across design, engineering, construction, network, and legal to develop the strategic plan needed to execute against the company's aggressive capacity targets.
• Guide team members on overall strategic approach to developing new capacity while mitigating risk and ensuring that sufficient contingency plans are in place.
• Accountable for data center supply pipeline and delivering on capacity targets while minimizing cost and optimizing for flexibility and optionality.
• Ensure that existing data center locations can operate and expand successfully.
• Collaborate with operational teams to ensure high uptime, capacity availability, flexibility with cost efficiency.
• Represent Meta in meetings with executives from potential suppliers, governments, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Recruit, on-board, and mentor internal staff and ensure robust learning and career development.

Requirements

• 15+ years of overall experience working in the site selection or real estate space.
• 8+ years experience managing a multi-layered organization.
• Proven commercial leadership and negotiation experience on multi-variable, complex deals.
• Proven track record of delivering large capital projects.
• Experience developing the vision for location strategy using development experience, including: site selection & negotiation, feasibility analysis, site planning, entitlements, permitting and contingency planning.
• Strategic thinker with experience driving decision making in ambiguous environments with experience influencing senior level stakeholders.
• Analytical problem-solving skills, experience being effective in a fast paced, hands-on work environment, and have a track record of success leading projects and developing complex solutions across multiple stakeholders.
• Competent collaborator and skilled cross-functional communicator.
• Communication, and presentation skills.
• Proven track record of organizational leadership, including leading larger organizations and scaling teams during growth cycles.
• Knowledgeable about and/or experience to quickly assess industry trends and headwinds, market opportunities, and the competitive landscape.
