About the position

The Director of Social Services at New Iberia Manor South is responsible for overseeing the provision of medically related social services to residents, ensuring their physical, mental, and psycho-social well-being. This role involves administrative authority and accountability, as well as supervising social workers and guiding facility staff in advocacy for residents' rights. The Director collaborates with the Administrator to allocate resources efficiently and effectively, while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with residents and families during the admission process to review policies on advanced directives and resident rights.
  • Conduct and document social services evaluations to identify resident problems and needs.
  • Provide or arrange social work services based on resident and family needs.
  • Assist residents with financial planning as needed.
  • Keep residents' families informed about their problems, personal needs, transfers, and changes in level assignment.
  • Maintain a current list of community resources for referrals.
  • Establish criteria to ensure services meet established quality standards.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills to interact effectively with residents, families, and staff.
  • Evaluate residents' behavior and psycho-social needs to inform treatment interventions.
  • Implement social service interventions to achieve treatment goals and enhance residents' quality of life.
  • Communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary care setting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related human services field.
  • One year of supervised social work experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Current Social Work license in the state.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate others.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to social work in long-term care.
