About the position

Colgate University is seeking a part-time Director of Softball Operations/Assistant Coach to join its Athletics Department. This position offers a unique opportunity to work within a highly selective residential liberal arts institution, collaborating with world-class faculty and staff. The successful candidate will be involved in various operational aspects of the softball program, ensuring adherence to the Head Coach's philosophy while managing non-coaching responsibilities. This includes overseeing team travel arrangements, managing procurement and purchasing, and coordinating program correspondence with key stakeholders such as donors and prospective student-athletes. Additionally, the role encompasses assisting in the development of student-athletes, monitoring their academic progress, and supporting their overall well-being. The position requires maintaining compliance with NCAA and institutional regulations, and the candidate will be expected to model leadership behaviors for student-athletes. This role is designed for individuals with previous collegiate experience in softball, either as a player or in a coaching capacity, and it emphasizes the importance of competitive success and collaboration within the athletic community.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of team travel including arranging flights, hotel accommodations, ground transportation, team per diem and trip itineraries.
  • Reconcile team and staff travel expenses following University and Athletics Business Office policies and procedures.
  • Manage procurement and purchasing for the program including negotiation with vendors for all program functions.
  • Work collaboratively with executive team members on the execution of game competition contracts, both home and away games.
  • Develop and coordinate program correspondence to key constituents including donors, alumni, parents, and prospective student-athletes.
  • Work collaboratively with the communications and creative services unit on social media strategy and presence for the program.
  • Maintain confidential and routine records, such as financial aid records, NLI forms, budget reports, compliance forms, procurement documents, competition forms and student-athlete class schedules.
  • Assist in oversight of student-athlete development, such as monitoring academic progress, participation in community service, and support of overall well-being.
  • Aid in athletic development including but not limited to individual and team practice.
  • Maintain appropriate NCAA/institutional recruiting certification to support team recruitment strategy.

Requirements

  • Previous collegiate playing, coaching and/or director of operations experience in the sport of softball.
  • Proven competitive success.
  • Bachelor's Degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience (playing or working) at an NCAA Division I institution.
