About the position

The Director of Software Engineering for Data & Analytics at BambooHR will lead a division focused on enhancing the analytical and data components of the company's HR software. This role involves overseeing multiple teams, mentoring engineering managers, and collaborating with various departments to deliver innovative software solutions. The position emphasizes accountability, technical leadership, and a commitment to company culture, making it essential for the candidate to have a strong background in software development and data analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a division of the software engineering team specializing in Analytical and Data domains.
  • Oversee multiple teams and manage engineering managers reporting directly to you.
  • Demonstrate leadership and patience through regular coaching and mentoring in individual and team settings.
  • Consult with leaders across Product Development to explore and deliver software solutions.
  • Embrace accountability in team and individual performance in sprint goals and quarterly OKRs.
  • Work closely with architects and platform teams to prioritize solutions and direction.
  • Participate in Engineering department hiring efforts.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of systems and processes.
  • Advocate for company values and be a great culture addition.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience focused on data and analytics software products.
  • 15+ years of experience in software development.
  • 10+ years of experience in SaaS and SMB.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated Director level/technical leadership experience.
  • 5+ years of experience guiding teams in the development of Analytical and Data Products.
  • Object-oriented development experience.
  • MySQL/MSSQL proficiency in query language and database structure/design.
  • Demonstrated leadership in Data Warehousing with proficiency in tools like Databricks or Snowflake.
  • Experience with version control software, preferably Git.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in documenting processes and monitoring performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of internal business tools and their impact on software functionality.
  • Architectural hands-on experience in Data Warehousing.
  • Experience in services development using PHP, Python, Java, or C#, with a desire to work in PHP (7.4+).
  • Experience in React, HTML, XML, JavaScript, CSS.
  • Experience in developing Software-as-a-Service with fast release cycles.
