About the position

As a Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Consumer and Community Banking Connected Commerce Payments line of business, you will be at the forefront of driving impact and innovation in software engineering. This role requires a seasoned leader who can take charge of a technical area and influence teams, technologies, and projects across various departments. You will utilize your extensive knowledge of software, applications, technical processes, and product management to oversee multiple complex projects and initiatives. Your leadership will be crucial as you serve as the primary decision-maker for your teams, ensuring that innovative solutions are delivered effectively and efficiently. In this position, you will lead technology and process implementations aimed at achieving functional technology objectives. Your decisions will significantly influence your teams' resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures. You will carry governance accountability for coding decisions, control obligations, and measures of success, such as cost of ownership, maintainability, and portfolio operations. Your role will also involve delivering technical solutions that can be leveraged across multiple businesses and domains, while influencing peer leaders and senior stakeholders across the business, product, and technology teams. Moreover, you will champion the firm's culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect, ensuring that these values are integrated into the team's operations and interactions. Responsibilities

  • Leads technology and process implementations to achieve functional technology objectives.
  • Makes decisions that influence teams' resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures.
  • Carries governance accountability for coding decisions, control obligations, and measures of success such as cost of ownership, maintainability, and portfolio operations.
  • Delivers technical solutions that can be leveraged across multiple businesses and domains.
  • Influences peer leaders and senior stakeholders across the business, product, and technology teams.
  • Champions the firm's culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10 years applied experience.
  • 5 years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise.
  • Experience managing teams of 25-30.
  • Experience developing or leading cross-functional teams of technologists.
  • Deep experience in building digital wallet or other payments systems at an enterprise scale.
  • Strong background in Java/J2EE, REST APIs, Web Services, Spring Framework and AWS Services in public cloud infrastructure (S3, Terraform, PostgreSQL DB, Dynamo DB).
  • Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security.
  • Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent.
  • Experience leading a product as a Product Owner or Product Manager.
  • Practical cloud native experience.
  • Experience working on back end systems.
  • Expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working at code level as a software engineer.
