About the position

The Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase is a leadership role responsible for driving impact across teams, technologies, and projects within the Engineers Platforms and Integrated Experience line of business. This position requires a deep understanding of software engineering, product management, and technical processes to lead multiple complex projects. The director will serve as a primary decision-maker, focusing on innovation and solution delivery while maintaining a strong customer-centric approach. The role involves building long-term relationships with customers and ensuring the successful implementation of quality products and features.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technology and process implementations to achieve functional technology objectives.
  • Make decisions that influence teams' resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures.
  • Carry governance accountability for coding decisions, control obligations, and measures of success such as cost of ownership, maintainability, and portfolio operations.
  • Deliver technical solutions that can be leveraged across multiple businesses and domains.
  • Influence peer leaders and senior stakeholders across the business, product, and technology teams.
  • Champion the firm's culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.
  • Manage and work collaboratively with a team of highly skilled engineers to ensure team and organization standards are followed.
  • Employ simple design and pragmatic implementation techniques to drive business value.
  • Pair program with team members to build high-quality solutions.
  • Mentor junior team members to progress their technical and professional skills.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10 years applied experience.
  • 5 years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise.
  • Experience developing or leading cross-functional teams of technologists.
  • Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent.
  • Experience leading a product as a Product Owner or Product Manager.
  • Practical cloud native experience.
  • Expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills along with work experience in Java and Spring Boot.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.
  • Strong experience troubleshooting issues, defining and delivering objectives and key results.
  • Strong implementation skills with ORM frameworks like Hibernate/JPA or MyBatis.
  • Proficient in SQL preferably across multiple databases.
  • Practical experience with Maven, Pypi, Nuget, Npm in continuous integration and deployment context.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working at code level.
  • JFrog Artifactory experience.
  • Exposure to observability tools like Grafana, Cortex, Kibana, Dynatrace, etc.
  • Familiarity with OAuth, SAML.
