About the position

The Director of Software Engineering for the Neuromodulation division at Boston Scientific is responsible for leading the development of innovative software medical device applications that enhance patient therapies. This role involves overseeing the software development process for regulated and non-regulated products, ensuring high performance and reliability in software solutions that control implantable neurostimulators and support mobile and cloud applications. The position emphasizes leadership, strategic planning, and collaboration across various teams to drive product innovation and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategies for creating high-performing teams and establish team goals to support business objectives.
  • Mentor and manage team members, including hiring, career planning, and performance management.
  • Apply appropriate development methodologies and establish software estimating practices.
  • Designate project software leads and allocate engineering resources to projects.
  • Specify and monitor metrics for executing project plans effectively.
  • Communicate efficiently with senior staff, direct reports, and cross-functional collaborators.
  • Establish a strategic team structure to scale the business with additional software products.
  • Contribute to product innovations and implement tactical continuous improvements.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related engineering field; or 5+ years with a Master's Degree.
  • Experience in the medical device or healthcare industry.
  • Direct management experience of software R&D teams designing, developing, and sustaining core products and services.
  • Experience working in agile environments such as Kanban and Scrum.
  • Collaborative approach to support other teams and embrace best practices from outside the area.
  • Strong integrity regarding the quality of work and understanding of formal software verification trade-offs.

  • Experience with C#, Swift, node.js, Java, UX, Containers, Cloud, Windows™, iOS, and Android.
