About the position

The Director of Software Engineering at Red 6 is a pivotal leadership role responsible for guiding the strategic direction and execution of software development initiatives within the company. This position requires a strong background in engineering and defense, with a focus on leading a geographically dispersed team to develop innovative software products for augmented reality technology in military training. The director will ensure high-quality software development practices while fostering a collaborative and dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

• Guide the development of software products, including ATARS and ARCADE.
• Direct software engineers based on strategic needs and day-to-day demands.
• Create and enforce industry-best processes for software quality and maintainability.
• Lead efforts to maximize software performance in extreme environments.
• Manage and mentor a geographically dispersed software team of over 20 people.
• Foster a collaborative environment and ensure team members are positioned for career growth.
• Manage expectations with product managers to meet schedules and quality standards.
• Utilize data to drive technical direction and project execution.
• Communicate software progress to internal and external stakeholders.
• Implement staffing for various programs and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• Master's degree in a STEM field.
• 10+ years of software leadership experience overseeing multiple teams.
• 6+ years of recent C++ development experience.
• 6+ years of Linux experience.
• Proven track record in guiding new technologies from ideation to production.
• Experience managing complex projects within scope and budget constraints.
• Strong leadership and team-building skills.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

• Preferred knowledge of defense technology and military requirements.
