About the position

The Director of Software Engineering will lead a team in developing innovative software solutions for real-time data processing, particularly in the field of fiber optic sensing technologies. This role involves managing the entire software lifecycle, from concept to delivery, while also being hands-on in development and problem-solving. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and experience in scaling software engineering practices in a startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Establish best practices in software engineering, testing, and lifecycle management in a fast-moving startup.
  • Lead and mentor a growing team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Architect, design, and implement scalable pipelines to capture and process data from fiber optic sensing networks in real-time.
  • Develop and deploy cutting-edge analysis tools to derive actionable insights, pushing the boundaries of technology and data science.
  • Oversee the integration and optimization of software systems, ensuring high performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including engineers, scientists, and executive leadership to align development efforts with business goals.
  • Streamline and automate development processes to enhance team efficiency and productivity.
  • Drive the end-to-end delivery of the product, from initial concept through to successful deployment and ongoing support.

Requirements

  • 10 years of experience with at least 5 years in a senior role successfully managing and scaling software engineering teams.
  • Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience with real-time and high-performance streaming applications.
  • Proficiency in programming such as Python, and/or Java/Cpp and strong experience with GPU programming for numerical computations and/or machine learning.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to obtain U.S. Security Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Hands-on experience with fiber optic sensing datasets.
  • Background in telecommunications or enterprise IT environments.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform.
