About the position

This position is within the DTECH Missions Solutions business of Cubic. We are looking for a Software Engineering Director who is ready for a new challenge in a healthy and growing business. DTECH's software products span a diverse range of underlying technologies, including firmware and HDL, embedded Linux BSP and operating systems, embedded applications, embedded network stacks, and cloud-based IoT device management infrastructure. This role will provide technological leadership and guide innovation within the business. The Software Engineering Director is responsible for oversight and delivery for the software product teams and ensures that efforts within the software team align with the strategic goals of the business. The Software Engineering Director will develop and update technical strategies and roadmaps in collaboration with product management. This role involves managing the activities of the software department, overseeing experienced professionals and multiple subordinate managers, and frequently advising multiple teams across a diverse technology landscape on complex matters. The Director will foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and constant improvement, collaborating with product management and other stakeholders to ensure successful product design and release. Maintaining high standards through best practices enforcement on coding, testing, and deployment is crucial, as is managing budgets, capital expense planning, and resource allocation. In addition, the Director will establish and track progress on software development goals, interview and hire software engineers, develop and lead training for team members, and track emerging technologies and industry trends, injecting them into the department as appropriate. Facilitating communications within the teams and outside the department to achieve business goals, metrics and monitoring, engineering process improvement, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while addressing security concerns are also key responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or related technical discipline plus 12 or more years of relevant experience
  • Master's degree in a relevant field with 8 or more years of relevant work experience
  • Must be a US citizen, eligible for DoD security clearance
  • Experience defining application architecture and applying design patterns is desired
  • Experience throughout the full software development lifecycle, from conception, architecture definition, detailed design, scoping, planning, implementation, testing to documentation, delivery and maintenance is required
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
