About the position

The Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase is a leadership role responsible for driving impact across technical areas, teams, and projects within the organization. This position requires a deep understanding of software engineering, product management, and technical processes to lead multiple complex initiatives while serving as a primary decision maker. The role is integral to the Corporate Technology team, which focuses on building scalable infrastructure and managing compliance and operational risks across various business functions.

Responsibilities

  • Leads technology and process implementations to achieve functional technology objectives.
  • Makes decisions that influence teams' resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures.
  • Carries governance accountability for coding decisions, control obligations, and measures of success such as cost of ownership, maintainability, and portfolio operations.
  • Delivers technical solutions that can be leveraged across multiple businesses and domains.
  • Influences peer leaders and senior stakeholders across the business, product, and technology teams.
  • Champions the firm's culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience.
  • 5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise.
  • Experience developing or leading cross-functional teams of technologists and managing large teams globally.
  • Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent.
  • Experience leading a product as a Product Owner or Product Manager.
  • Practical cloud native experience.
  • Deepened understanding of using techniques to create innovative solutions to roadblocks (e.g., design thinking, continuous improvement, rapid prototyping, etc.).
  • Expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
