About the position

The Director of Staff Development (DSD) is responsible for overseeing the onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training of staff at a premier nursing facility. This role ensures that all employees possess the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties safely and effectively. The DSD leads by example, fostering a positive and professional environment while ensuring compliance with regulations and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, develops and directs all educational programs and on-the-job training throughout the facility.
  • Maintains and updates all certifications, licenses, training, and employee records/files as per laws and regulations.
  • Ensures all pre-employment screening/testing requirements are met, including physicals and background checks.
  • Works collaboratively with other Department Leaders on policy development and training updates as needed.
  • Coordinates monthly/yearly calendars for in-services and other required activities, communicating them to all affected parties.
  • Follows all safety and infection prevention requirements and policies, reporting any exposures or hazards timely.
  • Continually evaluates and improves training programs and aids to keep the facility compliant with legal and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Valid LVN or RN license in good standing.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience providing direct care in a similar work environment.
  • Minimum 1 year experience developing and delivering training and supervising staff members.
  • Proven understanding of CA long-term care regulations and laws.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in all communication and work situations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a skilled nursing facility.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control programs.
