About the position

The Director of Storerooms and Material Logistics is responsible for leading the supply chain management efforts for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). This role involves overseeing the management of materials, capital equipment, and services, while directing a comprehensive logistics system to support warehouse and distribution operations. The Director will develop and execute complex supply chain initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and ensure alignment with WMATA's goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall direction, coordination, and monitoring of warehousing and logistics functions.
  • Establish key metrics to maintain sufficient levels of inventory for efficient supply chain management.
  • Determine the most efficient and cost-effective supply plan within a multi-site distribution environment.
  • Assist in negotiating vendor logistics terms and conditions to ensure supplier quality.
  • Initiate and drive operations improvement in inventory planning and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Ensure cost-efficient decisions during receipt, storage, and distribution processes.
  • Establish and communicate standard operating policies and procedures for supply chain management.
  • Coordinate across the Authority to establish quality control programs for inventory accuracy and product control.
  • Lead and execute a divestment recovery program for end-of-life assets and excess inventory.
  • Facilitate continuous efficiency improvements and instill a culture of customer fixation.
  • Develop curriculum and implement a formal training program for team members.
  • Serve as the lead for special projects, including the implementation of a Warehouse Management System (WMS).
  • Ensure all regulatory and compliance measures are met within WMATA's guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Purchasing/Supply Management, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Ten years of progressive management experience in supply chain activities in a competitive infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience in material warehousing, distribution, and logistics.
  • Valid driver's license in the jurisdiction of residence.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Management experience in a transit environment.
  • Understanding of Federal Transit Administration regulations.
  • Understanding of project management principles.
  • Experience managing a diverse and represented staff.
