About the position

The Clinical Director of Substance Abuse Counseling is responsible for overseeing the direction, provision, and quality of substance abuse and mental health counseling services. This role involves developing policies, ensuring evidence-based treatment approaches, providing clinical supervision, and maintaining compliance with local and federal regulations. The director will also participate in staff education, quality assurance, and program performance monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain written objectives, policies, and procedures for substance abuse counseling services.
  • Ensure evidence-based treatment approaches are utilized in client care.
  • Provide direct clinical supervision to all clinical staff at least one hour per week.
  • Ensure counseling services are provided as specified in client treatment plans.
  • Oversee the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of clients with co-occurring disorders.
  • Assist in developing job descriptions for counseling personnel and assign duties accordingly.
  • Participate in staff education activities and provide consultation to program personnel.
  • Provide orientation and evaluation of new counseling staff before assigning responsibilities.
  • Ensure all counseling staff are properly licensed or credentialed according to local and state law.
  • Identify quality care indicators and collect data to monitor staff and program performance.
  • Participate in planning and budgeting for substance abuse counseling services.
  • Ensure clinical staff are supervised by appropriately credentialed staff.
  • Comply with confidentiality laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • A New Jersey licensed psychologist with a Certification of Proficiency in the Treatment of Alcohol and other Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders.
  • A New Jersey licensed clinical social worker who is a certified clinical supervisor.
  • A New Jersey licensed professional counselor or licensed marriage and family therapist who is a certified clinical supervisor.
  • A New Jersey licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor with a Master's degree recognized by the New Jersey Board of Marriage and Family Therapy Examiners.
  • Five or more years of experience in mental health services with two or more years of supervisory experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a substance abuse treatment facility.
  • Administrative experience in a healthcare setting.
