About the position

The Director of the School of Theatre at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro is a leadership role that requires extensive academic and administrative experience, as well as significant achievements in theatre artistry or scholarship. This ten-month position, reporting to the Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts, involves providing visionary leadership, managing academic programs, and fostering collaboration among faculty, staff, and students. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting equity, accessibility, and inclusivity within the School of Theatre while also engaging with the broader community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership to the School of Theatre by guiding strategic planning and fostering collaboration among faculty, staff, and students.
  • Lead and manage all aspects of the School of Theatre, including academic programs, production seasons, and faculty development.
  • Manage fiscal and business resources through comprehensive budgeting.
  • Promote and advocate for the School of Theatre within the College, University, and community.
  • Collaborate with faculty to support and develop innovative curricula and initiatives responsive to the evolving needs of students and the theatre industry.
  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in areas of expertise to a diverse student body.
  • Establish and maintain confidence among faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the professional community.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree or equivalent professional experience with evidence of outstanding teaching, scholarship/creative activity, and service.
  • Credentials appropriate for a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
  • Proven record of inclusive and strategic leadership, fostering faculty and student development to enhance diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.
  • Significant experience in fiscal oversight and management.
  • Experience managing complex projects and academic programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • An ongoing engagement with the field that demonstrates a broad range of historic and contemporary practices in pedagogy, scholarship, and artistry.
  • Three years of administrative or leadership experience at the collegiate level.
  • Demonstrated understanding of current challenges in higher education, particularly how systemic inequities shape institutional dynamics.
  • Record of community engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration.
