About the position

The Director of Total Compensation at Widener University is a leadership role within the Office of Human Resources, responsible for overseeing compensation and benefits strategies and programs. This position aims to ensure that the university's compensation and benefits offerings are competitive, thereby attracting, retaining, and rewarding employees. The director will lead the development and implementation of compensation programs, monitor trends, and ensure compliance with regulations, all while contributing to the university's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and leadership to design, develop, and implement compensation and benefits programs that align with the university's strategy.
  • Develop a total compensation philosophy for the university, including appropriate pay positioning relative to the market.
  • Provide compensation expertise to identify issues and implement solutions to engage and reward talent.
  • Direct compensation survey participation and analyze responses for market competitiveness.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the annual staff salary program, ensuring internal equity and market competitiveness.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of existing benefit and compensation policies and recommend revisions or new plans.
  • Administer and manage Widener's benefit programs, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Utilize the university's human resource information system (Colleague) effectively to administer benefits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Finance, Management, or a related field.
  • At least seven years of program management experience in compensation, benefits, or a related role.
  • Experience as a Total Rewards or Benefits Supervisor in developing and implementing compensation programs.
  • Experience managing a wide range of benefit plans including retirement, life insurance, and health insurance.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts.
  • Experience in data analysis, reporting, and presentation of compensation data.
  • Demonstrated skill in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and HR Information Systems.
  • Experience in leading and developing a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Finance, or Management.
  • Experience in developing compensation and benefits programs within a higher education environment.
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague.
  • CEBS, CCP, PHR, or SHRM-CP certification.
