About the position

The Director of Transportation and Logistics at Xavier University of Louisiana is responsible for overseeing the university's transportation services, ensuring safe and efficient shuttle operations, and coordinating logistics for key student-related events. This role requires strong leadership skills, a commitment to student service, and a proven track record in managing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and supervise shuttle drivers to ensure high standards of safety and service.
  • Develop and implement training programs for shuttle drivers, focusing on customer service, safety protocols, and operational efficiency.
  • Create and manage shuttle schedules to optimize routes and meet the transportation needs of students and staff.
  • Serve as the logistics coordinator for major university events, including New Student Orientation, Founders Day, Convocation, Black History Month Convocation, and Graduation.
  • Collaborate with event planners and other departments to ensure seamless transportation logistics for all events.
  • Coordinate the transportation of equipment and materials needed for events.
  • Work with faculty and staff to coordinate transportation for service learning projects and class trips, ensuring all logistical needs are met.
  • Manage reservations and scheduling for transportation requests from academic departments.
  • Assist in the development and management of the transportation budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Explore opportunities for cost savings and improvements in transportation services.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and university policies related to transportation.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of vehicles and operations.
  • Maintain effective communication with students, staff, and faculty regarding transportation schedules, changes, and updates.
  • Prepare reports on transportation operations, usage statistics, and event logistics to present to university leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation management, logistics coordination, or a related field.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills with experience in hiring and training.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on customer service.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed for events.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • CDL experience.
  • Experience leading programs in a university setting.
