About the position

We are currently seeking a Full-Time Traveling Director of Nursing to oversee our Northeast Ohio facilities located in Orwell, Conneaut, Geneva, and Madison. As the Traveling Director of Nursing, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the functions of the nursing department. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient nursing care. This position involves supervising Nurse Practitioners, the Assistant Director of Clinical Services, Clinical Nurses, and Nurse Techs. In the absence of the Executive Director, you will be responsible for implementing resident care policies established by the facility. This job description is not exhaustive, and you may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or managers. Your role will require you to demonstrate respect and compassion in every interaction, conduct yourself with the highest degree of honesty and integrity, and show a passion for caring through your interactions with co-workers, residents, families, and visitors. You will set and monitor the achievement of goals and objectives for the nursing department, recruit and hire qualified nursing staff, and ensure adherence to an annual operating budget for the nursing department. Additionally, you will maintain compliance with corporate and external regulatory guidelines, manage resident rights policies, and participate in the quality improvement process for the facility. Regular communication with residents, families, and staff will be essential, as will your participation in department meetings and in-service education sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct the functions of the nursing department.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, efficient nursing care.
  • Supervise Nurse Practitioners, Assistant Director of Clinical Services, Clinical Nurses, and Nurse Techs.
  • Implement resident care policies in the absence of the Executive Director.

  • Conduct oneself with honesty and integrity in all interactions.
  • Set and monitor achievement of goals and objectives for the nursing department.
  • Recruit and hire qualified nursing staff according to the established staffing plan.
  • Establish and update competency/skills checklists for nursing staff.
  • Prepare and adhere to an annual operating budget for the nursing department.
  • Maintain and guide the implementation of current policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with resident rights policies and resolve grievances.
  • Establish and monitor an effective medical record documentation system.
  • Maintain productive communication with residents, families, and staff.
  • Prepare and submit reports on nursing department operations as required.
  • Actively participate in the quality improvement process for the facility.
  • Provide in-service education sessions as needed.
  • Attend and participate in department/facility meetings as required.
  • Schedule and document regular meetings with nursing staff.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
  • Proven experience in a nursing leadership role, preferably in long-term care.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing practices and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets and staffing effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with quality improvement processes in healthcare settings.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records systems.
  • Certification in nursing administration or management.
