About the position

The Director of Operations at Performance Food Group is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the operational efficiency of the company's warehouse and transportation functions. This position involves managing complex operational challenges, optimizing processes, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement to enhance productivity and profitability. The Director will lead a team, implement best practices, and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards while supporting the overall goals of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees efficient operations of warehouse and transportation functions, including receiving, stocking, picking, packing, delivery, equipment maintenance, security, and safety.
  • Oversees all scheduling and delivery of incoming product and outbound product/customer deliveries, managing the department to achieve appropriate timeliness and quality.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors standard operating procedures for warehousing, transportation, inventory, and security.
  • Negotiates with vendors/suppliers for necessary items such as packaging and equipment.
  • Leads managers and associates in staffing, training, coaching, performance management, and problem resolution.
  • Develops and monitors employee productivity/quality action plans in accordance with operational standards.
  • Determines personnel and equipment requirements by evaluating warehouse activities and projected volumes.
  • Ensures compliance with company, OSHA, and DOT standards for safety and distribution.
  • Implements procedures for handling customer and vendor returns, and performs periodic inventory counts.
  • Identifies training requirements and implements programs for warehouse and transportation employees.
  • Meets regularly with OpCo President to discuss profitability, capital expenditures, and employee productivity.
  • Supports Risk Management in investigating accidents and developing training programs to improve safety.
  • Participates in sales efforts by assisting sales personnel and resolving operational issues.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of warehouse and transportation management experience.
  • 2-3 years in a leadership role managing a team of over 300 direct and indirect reports.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Food distribution and Direct Store Delivery experience preferred.
  • Experience with SAP or similar warehouse management systems.
