About the position

The Director of Operations at Corewell Health is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all non-clinical aspects of the Corewell Health Medical Group's assigned department. This role is pivotal in achieving the overall strategic and operational goals of the organization. The Director will work closely with the Corewell Health Medical Group leadership team and functional support services to ensure that the quality of care provided to patients and families is of the highest standard. This position may also oversee some hospital cost centers, necessitating a strong collaborative relationship with hospital leadership and stakeholders. In this role, the Director participates with the governing counsel of the department and the department physician chair in developing and implementing the Corewell Health Medical Group's philosophy, mission, goals, and objectives. The Director ensures that departmental policies, programs, and plans are consistent with and support the core values and mission of Corewell Health Medical Group. This includes identifying, recommending, developing, and updating departmental strategic long and short-range plans to align with the organization's philosophy and longer-term strategic intent. The Director is tasked with developing and achieving business goals that include establishing and maintaining quality standards while sustaining profitability for the organization. This involves organizing, coordinating, and integrating practice management systems, policies, and procedures with a focus on operational excellence, staffing, office operations, information systems, management development, and marketing. The Director will also direct and supervise all operational, facility planning, strategic growth planning, and quality activities of the department through professional management and technical and support staff. Additionally, the Director is responsible for departmental public relations and marketing activities, collaborating in the development of marketing objectives designed to support operational and financial goals. The role requires innovating and creating competitive product services that add value to physician practices and departmental services. The Director provides direction and support to physicians, advanced practice providers, management, and staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency within the department. This includes selecting, developing, and evaluating management, physicians, and mid-level providers, as well as initiating personnel actions in accordance with Corewell Health Medical Group policies and organizational philosophy. The Director will also maintain effective physician relations by identifying and actively recruiting additional physicians and allied health providers, ensuring a high quality of service is provided to patients and physicians at all times. The role involves managing all aspects of department revenue cycle operations, ensuring compliance and maximization of managed care contracts, and developing, implementing, and maintaining the annual operating plan for the department. The Director will work closely with the Department Chair to develop the financial plan for the department and monitor actual financial results against the approved plan, ensuring compliance with regulatory rules governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in business, health care administration, or related field.
  • Master's Degree or equivalent preferred.
  • 7 years of relevant experience in related health care experience preferred.
  • 3 years of relevant experience in a leadership role required.
  • Proven track record of achieving revenue targets and demonstrated ability to think strategically.
  • Experience working in an organization of size and complexity comparable to Corewell Health Medical Group.
