About the position

The Director, OPO Clinical Operations at the University of Miami/UHealth is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all aspects of clinical organ recovery procedures, organ allocation, and recovery operations. This includes managing Hospital Services, Donor Family Services, and ensuring compliance with regulatory agency requirements. The Director will lead a team that includes Donor Management Coordinators and Donor Referral Responders, ensuring that all operational standards are met and that the program operates efficiently and effectively. The position requires a strategic approach to enhance organ donation processes and to identify opportunities for improvement in donation activities across South Florida. In this role, the Director will also be responsible for the overall strategy and clinical delivery of hospital-based outpatient clinics. This includes analyzing and executing resource management models that encompass operational, financial, and administrative aspects. The Director will serve as a key communication link between hospital leadership and the department, ensuring alignment and efficient progression of a unified ambulatory strategy. Continuous improvement of clinical operations and enhancing the patient experience, as well as staff and physician satisfaction, are critical components of this position. The Director will architect a vision for expanding organ donation, holding all stakeholders accountable to high standards of excellence. This includes overseeing the activities of clinical staff involved in organ procurement, ensuring that all procedures related to donor management, organ allocation, and regulatory compliance are executed flawlessly. The role also involves developing and delivering training programs for clinical staff to ensure they possess the necessary skills to provide excellent service and care. Additionally, the Director will monitor performance improvement activities related to organ procurement and collaborate with the Quality Assurance Department to maintain optimal operational standards. Administrative responsibilities include overseeing data collection related to the organ recovery process, strategizing annual initiatives to improve procurement statistics, and providing leadership and guidance to staff. The Director will also be involved in budget management, strategic planning, and fostering relationships with local hospital administrators to enhance organ donation activities. This position requires a commitment to patient safety and compliance with organizational policies, including maintaining necessary certifications and participating in ongoing education and training.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of clinical organ recovery procedures and organ allocation operations.
  • Manage staff responsible for Donor Management, Donor Referral Responders, and Donor Family Services.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
  • Identify, develop, and implement new processes to increase organ donation.
  • Strategize Hospital Development initiatives to strengthen donation activities in South Florida.
  • Direct overall strategy and clinical delivery of hospital-based outpatient clinics.
  • Analyze, develop, and execute resource management modeling, including operational, financial, and administrative models.
  • Serve as a communication conduit between hospital leadership and the department.
  • Continuously increase clinical operations and implement systems to enhance patient experience and staff satisfaction.
  • Oversee training and professional development for organ procurement employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree highly preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant OPO leadership experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven success in organ procurement operations.
  • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, presentation, and training skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and organize multiple tasks in a complex environment.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and database systems.
  • Valid driver's license.
