About the position

The Optical Manufacturing Director at Walman Optical is responsible for coordinating and facilitating the activities of the manufacturing facility. This role involves aiding the Sr. Director of Manufacturing in formulating and administering procedures, ensuring the implementation of company strategies, and participating in the development of long-range objectives. The director oversees production and stockroom teams, ensuring compliance with operational guidelines and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production methods and product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and leads the Production and Stockroom teams.
  • Assists the Sr. Director in leading HR, Quality, Continuous Improvement, EH&S, and Maintenance teams.
  • Interprets and communicates organizational directives ensuring implementation.
  • Monitors the evolution of operations and identifies gaps and trends.
  • Delegates and coaches team members to lead projects to completion.
  • Ensures accountability for status/actions defined by audits and reports.
  • Communicates facility status and highlights trends needing attention.
  • Generates reports based on performance and data collected from manufacturing processes.
  • Oversees establishment and training of work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Drives measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
  • Identifies and participates in Continuous Improvement projects to eliminate non-value added activities.
  • Plans and directs layout of equipment, workflow, and assembly methods.
  • Ensures a safe work environment and compliance with OSHA standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 10 years of management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working in multiple facilities.
  • Track record of advancement for self and directs.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma/LEAN Manufacturing.
  • Proven ability to motivate staff to resolve business problems.
  • Superior oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to introduce and implement new ideas and directives.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's in Business or Engineering.
