About the position

The Director, Payroll at Nexxen is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the global payroll function. This position ensures that payroll processing for all employees is accurate and timely, which is critical for maintaining employee satisfaction and compliance with various regulations. The Director will lead the payroll team, implementing and maintaining payroll systems that align with the company's goals and regulatory requirements. This role requires a collaborative approach, working closely with various departments to ensure that payroll is effectively integrated with other business processes and systems. In this role, the Director will manage the payroll department, which includes hiring, training, and evaluating staff performance. They will develop and implement payroll policies and procedures that not only meet regulatory requirements but also support the company's strategic objectives. The Director will provide guidance and support to payroll team members, fostering a high-performance culture and encouraging professional development. The Director will oversee the accurate and timely processing of global payrolls, which includes regular, bonus, and incentive payments. They will ensure compliance with tax withholding, wage and hour laws, and all payroll-related regulations. Additionally, the Director will manage payroll operations, including payroll accounting, audits, reconciliations, and reporting. They will also oversee the implementation and management of payroll vendors, ensuring that payroll systems are updated in response to changes in laws and regulations. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Director will work with IT and HR teams to integrate payroll with other business systems such as HRIS and Time & Attendance. They will also manage internal and external payroll audits and respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies. The Director will prepare and present payroll-related financial reports to senior management, analyze payroll data to identify trends and opportunities for efficiency, and provide expertise on payroll matters related to compensation planning and organizational changes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the payroll department, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff performance.
  • Develop and implement payroll policies, procedures, and systems that align with company goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support to payroll team members to ensure high performance and professional development.

  • Ensure proper tax withholding, wage and hour compliance, and adherence to all payroll-related regulations.
  • Manage payroll operations, including payroll accounting, audits, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Oversee the implementation and management of payroll vendors.
  • Ensure payroll systems are updated in response to changes in laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with IT and HR teams to integrate payroll with other business systems (HRIS, Time & Attendance, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, including tax filings and reporting.
  • Manage internal and external payroll audits and respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, including overtime, minimum wage, and pay equity requirements.
  • Prepare and present payroll-related financial reports to senior management.
  • Analyze payroll data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for efficiency and cost savings.
  • Work closely with HR, Finance, Legal, and other departments to ensure payroll is aligned with overall business objectives.
  • Provide expertise on payroll matters in relation to compensation planning and organizational changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in payroll management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, SAP) and payroll-related regulations.
  • Experience with multi-state and international payroll.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficient in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves
