About the position

The Director of Physical Security at Garmin is responsible for leading the physical security teams and programs, focusing on the identification and management of physical security risks. This role involves providing oversight and strategic direction for Garmin's global physical security strategy and policies, ensuring the safety of company assets, associates, and guests.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and executes Garmin's Physical Security policies, strategies, and management systems.
  • Provides oversight on advanced matters of physical security.
  • Directs implementation of corrective actions and resolutions to program and management system deficiencies.
  • Directs periodic risk assessments to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and audit requirements.
  • Participates in or leads Threat Analysis related to Physical Security Risks.
  • Operationalizes risk intelligence to prioritize and manage risks effectively.
  • Interacts with stakeholders to define potential business impacts and apply effective mitigation strategies.
  • Plans and executes an enterprise-wide governance system for physical security priorities.
  • Develops physical security strategies aligned with stakeholders, including the executive team and partners.
  • Directs teams and communicates effectively with executive leadership regarding threats and incident responses.
  • Promotes strategic physical security relationships with internal and external entities.
  • Specifies security requirements and audits the administration of physical security systems and equipment.
  • Develops, tracks, and controls physical security services' annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Leads compliance measurement and maintenance of policies for Physical Security.
  • Designs, operates, and reports on relevant industry frameworks and governance templates.
  • Coordinates physical security assessments to evaluate policy compliance and identify vulnerabilities.
  • Advises management on industry developments impacting Garmin's physical security policies.
  • Assists Human Resources and/or Legal Department with sensitive projects.
  • Builds and maintains high-performing teams by recruiting and developing talent.
  • Promotes team member engagement and effectiveness through feedback and personal development.
  • Develops and manages team performance metrics to identify successful operations or areas for improvement.
  • Demonstrates ongoing personal development and professional growth.
  • Accepts and executes miscellaneous IT & Security duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, or related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of previous law enforcement and/or security combined experience.
  • Demonstrated experience and in-depth knowledge in crisis management, security, investigation, loss prevention, and risk management.
  • Experience as a liaison with outside agencies (fire, police, FBI, etc.).
  • Experience with global posture and strategy for large organizations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to coach and mentor others.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with presentation skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and project management skills with high interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to deal with confidential company matters.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous corporate security experience.
  • Graduate degree in Public Administration, Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in Physical Security (e.g., CPP, CSP, CBCP).
  • Prior experience working with Corporate Human Resources and/or Legal Departments.
