The Director of Physician Compensation will play a crucial role in centralizing the physician compensation calculation function, ensuring that the processes are efficient and aligned with the company's goals. This position requires a deep understanding of various compensation models, including private practice, wRVUs, percent of collections, and Earnings Before Physician Compensation (EPBC). The successful candidate will be responsible for developing workflows that integrate people, processes, and technology to administer the monthly calculation of physician compensation effectively. The Director will report to the VP of MSO Operations and will be tasked with assessing the current state of compensation processes and proposing a roadmap for centralization. This includes managing contract compliance, standardizing approval workflows, and ensuring that all payments adhere to contracts. The role also involves liaising with multiple departments, including finance, operations, compliance, and legal, to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and engaged in the compensation process. The Director will also be responsible for hiring, onboarding, and mentoring team members, as well as developing training programs for finance and operations staff. In addition to routine responsibilities, the Director will function as a subject matter expert in creating new compensation plans and assessing existing plans during due diligence for potential acquisitions. The position requires strong communication skills, the ability to collaborate across departments, and a working knowledge of the regulatory landscape related to physician compensation. The ideal candidate will have experience with large multisite medical groups and be proficient in technology solutions that support compensation processes.

Responsibilities

  • Centralize the day-to-day physician compensation calculation function.
  • Develop workflows for the administration of monthly physician compensation calculations.
  • Learn and become an expert on the legal structure and economic model of each partnership.
  • Assess the current state process and tools utilized for compensation calculations.
  • Propose a roadmap to centralize compensation administration and calculation functions.
  • Manage contract compliance and ensure contracts are appropriately managed within the contract management system.
  • Standardize the approval workflow utilizing workflow automation tools.
  • Help standardize the Fair Market Value (FMV) process with the compensation function.
  • Hire, onboard, and mentor teammates as needed.
  • Build a reporting cadence with operations and finance to communicate monthly results and key drivers.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, healthcare administration, or a related business degree.
  • A minimum of 7 years of related experience in physician compensation or finance.
  • A minimum of 3 years managing a team.
  • Experience with large multisite and multimarket medical groups is required.
  • Working knowledge of the regulatory landscape related to physician compensation.
  • Ability to collaborate with other departments and organizations effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with physicians.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, PowerBI); experience with SQL is a bonus.
  • Motivation to achieve individual and team goals, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to function both as a high-level executive and in detail-oriented tasks in a start-up-like environment.
