About the position

The Director of Physician Compensation is responsible for providing strategic direction and overseeing the design and implementation of provider compensation plans. This role acts as the primary financial contact for physicians and regional administrative leadership regarding compensation policies and issues, ensuring accurate reporting and support related to compensation levels. The director will also manage the physician compensation staff and facilitate communication and education regarding compensation calculations and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of physician compensation including monthly true-up calculations and call pay allocations.
  • Coordinate quarterly physician distributions and manage associated tax withholdings.
  • Prepare and distribute compensation summaries to physicians and develop proforma projections for recruitment.
  • Interact with physicians and CPAs regarding compensation and provide necessary tax documentation.
  • Calculate and track physician buy-ins, buy-outs, and trailing accounts receivable.
  • Work with payroll to ensure timely payment of physician compensation.
  • Review and approve all physician expense reports and incorporate benefit elections into compensation calculations.
  • Serve as the primary contact for physicians, providing education on compensation structures and calculations.
  • Complete quarterly reviews of physician financial performance with leadership.
  • Prepare the physician compensation component of the annual operating budget.
  • Collaborate with the Legal team to prepare compensation exhibits for agreements.
  • Model compensation plan modifications as needed and maintain compensation dashboards.
  • Prepare presentations for regional and state board meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required.
  • CPA, CMA, or CMPE certification highly preferred.
  • Five or more years of financial experience with progressive responsibility.
  • Prior leadership experience required.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal tax laws.
  • Experience with financial accounting software and/or electronic health record systems, with Epic experience preferred.
  • Data analytic and reporting experience with Caboodle and Tableau preferred.
  • Advanced MS Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in explaining complex financial concepts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Tableau and Caboodle for data analytics.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting software and electronic health record systems.
