About the position

The Director, Power Hardware Engineering will lead the design and development of power infrastructure for Microsoft's Azure cloud services. This role focuses on delivering high-quality power solutions for both AI and non-AI systems, influencing architecture and engineering processes, and ensuring reliable end-to-end delivery of hardware products. The position involves collaboration with various teams to enhance operational measures of success in hardware manufacturing, quality, and sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead system-level design and development for power infrastructure across Azure.
  • Influence architecture, engineering, and validation processes for power delivery solutions.
  • Develop and deploy solutions for reliable end-to-end delivery of hardware products.
  • Collaborate with multiple server platform teams to create high power solutions.
  • Support rack-level development programs for high power delivery and conversion solutions.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in power engineering to resolve development and production issues.
  • Work with Data Center Engineering to suggest infrastructure improvements.
  • Create specifications and test all solutions in various development stages.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of technical engineering experience in relevant fields.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with 10+ years of experience, or a Master's degree with 8+ years, or a Doctorate with 3+ years of experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in the server/storage/data center industry.
  • 10+ years of experience in the power industry developing AC-DC power supplies and solutions.
  • 5+ years of experience managing engineers in server and data center power delivery.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to instrument and test power supplies and converters in the lab.
  • Experience in writing embedded systems code for power applications.
  • Strong project management skills and system design knowledge.
  • Experience in specifying, designing, and qualifying UPS platforms.
  • Familiarity with EMI, Safety, and general agency requirements.
  • Excellent writing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
