About the position

The Director of Practice Operations for Cancer Care at MaineHealth is a pivotal leadership role that reports directly to the Vice President of Practice Operations. This position encompasses the management of all operational aspects across multiple practice sites, ensuring that quality patient care is consistently delivered. The Director is responsible for fostering a positive practice culture and engagement, overseeing the development of management and staff, and ensuring effective recruitment and retention of personnel, including physicians. Financial performance is a key accountability, requiring the Director to collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including Information Services, Human Resources, Central Billing Office, credentialing, legal, and finance, to ensure that practices operate efficiently and comply with all regulatory standards. In addition to operational management, the Director will partner with both Medical and Administrative leadership to engage in strategic planning and business development initiatives within the practice area. This role demands a proactive approach to developing and implementing new programs or services that enhance patient care and operational efficiency. The Director must possess strong leadership qualities, demonstrating the ability to mentor and coach staff while effectively communicating with all levels of the organization. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of financial management within a hospital outpatient practice environment, as well as the ability to analyze and utilize data to inform decision-making and drive improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all operational aspects of practice sites to ensure quality patient care.
  • Oversee practice culture and engagement, including staff development and retention.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal practice functioning and compliance with regulations.
  • Partner with Medical and Administrative leadership for strategic planning and business development.
  • Develop and implement new programs or services to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Establish practice work plans and manage to objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Hospital Administration, or related field; Graduate Degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of progressively advanced financial and administrative management experience in a hospital outpatient practice environment.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new programs or services.
  • Effective leadership, team building, mentoring, and coaching skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Proven ability to engage staff and lead through change.
  • Analytic thinking ability to access, analyze, and utilize information meaningfully.
  • Proficient computer skills.
