About the position

The Director, Principal Product Manager for Workflow and Request within RaDS IT will spearhead the development of the Workflow and Request capability, playing a pivotal role in the digital transformation of scientific tools. This position is crucial for enhancing lab-based research processes and accelerating the delivery of innovative drugs to market. The successful candidate will possess a unique blend of business acumen and technical expertise, enabling them to maintain a big-picture vision while also being detail-oriented. They will be responsible for understanding complex scientific problems and translating these needs into actionable tasks for the technical team, ensuring that solutions are effectively introduced and continuously improved. A key measure of success will be the acceptance and adoption of these solutions by the targeted scientific community. In this role, the individual will act as a passionate advocate for scientists' needs throughout all phases of product development. They will manage the product life cycle for Workflow and Request, from strategic planning to tactical execution. This includes understanding the problem space, specifying requirements for current and future products, and collaborating closely with research scientists and other stakeholders. The role also involves aiding in the adoption and change management planning, as well as analyzing potential vendor partnerships for the resultant solutions. The position requires occasional travel to other sites, emphasizing the need for flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the Workflow and Request capability within RaDS IT.
  • Execute strategy for supporting the digital transformation of scientific tools.
  • Manage the product life cycle for Workflow and Request from strategic planning to tactical activities.
  • Understand the problem space and specify requirements for current and future products through close partnership with research scientists and stakeholders.
  • Aid in the adoption and change management planning.
  • Analyze potential vendor partner relationships for resultant solutions.

Requirements

  • B.A./B.S. or Advanced degree in a relevant technical or scientific discipline (e.g., life sciences, informatics, genomics, statistics/biostatistics).
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in IT and life sciences.
  • Significant experience in the pharmaceutical industry to understand workflows and data management needs.
  • Previous experience in a Product Management role.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies for software development.
  • Ability to appreciate complex problems and tackle diverse subject matter creatively.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong, trust-based relationships to drive change.
  • Ability to prioritize work based on user need, business value, and ROI.
  • Quickly grasp new technological and scientific concepts and convey their value to clients.
  • Experience in redesigning and improving internal business processes.
  • Ability to manage change as a critical success factor for adoption.
  • Experience making build-or-buy decisions.
  • Ability to function in a geographically distributed, culturally diverse environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of problems facing scientists in drug discovery labs from a lab-based background.
