About the position

The role will lead development of the Workflow and Request capability within RaDS IT and execute strategy for supporting the digital transformation of our scientific tools. This position offers the opportunity to work on high-profile applications that significantly impact how lab-based research is conducted, ultimately accelerating the delivery of innovative drugs to market. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of business and technical acumen, with a big-picture vision complemented by the ability to dive into the details and drive that vision to fruition. In this role, you will be responsible for comprehending scientific problems and translating those needs to the technical team while prioritizing tasks to ensure the introduction and ongoing enhancement of solutions. Success in this position will be measured by the acceptance and adoption of these new solutions by the scientists targeted for each release. You will need to empathize with our scientists' needs and advocate passionately for their perspectives throughout all phases of product development. Key tasks include managing the product life cycle for Workflow and Request from strategic planning to tactical activities, understanding the problem space, and specifying requirements for current and future products through close collaboration with our research scientists and other stakeholders. Additionally, you will aid in the adoption and change management planning, as well as analyze potential vendor partner relationships for the resultant solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the Workflow and Request capability within RaDS IT.
  • Execute strategy for supporting the digital transformation of scientific tools.
  • Manage the product life cycle for Workflow and Request from strategic planning to tactical activities.
  • Understand the problem space and specify requirements for current and future products through partnership with research scientists and stakeholders.
  • Aid in the adoption and change management planning.
  • Analyze potential vendor partner relationships for resultant solutions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience across the IT and life sciences space.
  • Significant experience in or around the pharmaceutical industry to understand underlying workflows and data management needs.
  • Previous experience in a Product management role with enthusiasm for the craft.
  • Well-versed in Agile methodologies for software development and able to impart that knowledge to others.
  • Ability to appreciate complex problems and tackle a diversity of subject matter with creative strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong, trust-based, collaborative relationships to drive change within a large, diverse organization.
  • Ability to prioritize work based on user need, business value, and return on investment.
  • Ability to quickly grasp new technological and scientific concepts and convey their value to clients and collaborators.
  • Experience in redesigning and improving internal business processes.
  • Ability to consider and manage change as a critical success factor for adoption.
  • Experience and comfort making build-or-buy decisions.
  • Ability to function in a geographically distributed, culturally diverse environment with both internal and external employees.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrable knowledge of problems facing scientists in a drug discovery lab, ideally from a lab-based background.
  • Experience applying change management concepts in a cross-functional group.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with vendors to address business problems.
  • Familiarity with user-centered design and UX principles.
  • Pragmatic Institute Certification.
  • Familiarity with Cloud-based software and terms.
  • Experience with LIMS or other lab data capture informatics software.
  • Experience with Appian or other low-code development software.
  • Comprehension of laboratory processes and methods.
  • Comprehension of the Product Life Cycle of software products.
